Latest news: "Il Mercato" damages water pipe and refuses to take responsability.

Water pipeWhere the buldozer was driving 11 March 2008

What a surprise, coming home after a working day and find the water pipe that supplies our compound shattered in a lake of water...... First thing is to close the valve. Then plan of action with the neighbours. First of all organizing the immediate repair. Then finding the responsible party. Witnesses at a nearby diving center say they saw a big bulldozer crossing the incriminated area several times that day. They where working for "Il Mercato" planting palm trees. Story confirmed by the Sales manager of the Mercato. At first very friendly, promising to send somebody over the next day on the spot, clearly giving the impression willing to pay for expenses if their responsibility. An appointment for the next day is made to present the bill. Lost water: 267 mc at LE 8,45 = LE 2256 Repair: LE 300 Total: LE 2556 = € 300 Well, the next day the attitude was completely changed. The manager of "Il Mercato" says they won't pay the damage. In his opinion the bulldozer could pass there, not being private property. Then, he says, there is no proof their bulldozer caused the damage. "Did you take the license plate number?" he asked. Well. In the meantime the first shops opened at "Il Mercato" already closed (e.i Beano's). Walking around you spot more hanging locals then shopping tourists. The surrounding area is still a building site. The first complaints about the increasing loud music start to be heard.

To be honest, we are not surprised!!
