About Sharm’s tap water.
Water is a basic need and extra important in a hot climate. What can you do to make sure it keeps coming and what are the prices at Sharm?
Water in Sharm is provided by truck or through the network of a private (not public) water company. Even a network doesn’t provide water all day and the pressure can vary, so most houses and compounds accumulate in an own water tank before it arrives in your apartment.

What if the main pump breaks down? If permitted a small (500 lt) tank on the roof makes you more independent and provides water even in case of black-out because no pump is needed, though don’t expect a high pressure. If water goes away frequently mount a one-way valve to avoid gurgling air in the pipes each time water comes back. Take the type with integrated filter to spare your washing machine the sand that often comes together with the water.
Prices vary. The unit price now is LE 9,5 per cubic meter if coming through a network (06/2008 Sinai Environmental Services) and can vary

slightly between the companies. If coming by water truck this is roughly double. If you pay the bill indirectly to the administrator of your compound, know that the law permits them to charge up to double the unit price, though they should have a permit for reselling. Same thing counts for the electricity. Always ask for a receipt that mentions the amount and the corresponding period together with the previous and current meter reading.

Make sure you register the meter readings with as much the same intervals as the administrator does. So learn the arabic numbers.

Identify your meter between others by letting somebody open and close a tap inside the house while you look which meter corresponds.
There have been cases at Sharm that the water or power of a compound has been cut of because the administrator didn’t pay the bill,

despite payment from the residents of the compound. This is a felony and you should report it to the police. Don’t expect immediate action, but you need it as a proof if you want to take legal steps.
Last but not least, drink from a bottle not from the tap. Cheers!
